The National Youth Authority (NYA) has partnered with leading courier company SHAQEXPRESS to train 1,000 young people annually in electric bike courier and Okada services.
The initiative is a bold step toward equipping Ghana’s youth with employable skills while promoting sustainable transport solutions.
Announcing the partnership, Acting CEO of the NYA, Osman Ayariga, said the programme forms part of the Authority’s broader mandate to foster self-employment and entrepreneurship through practical, business-oriented training.
“This initiative will not only contribute to reducing youth unemployment but will also support Ghana’s transition to cleaner energy by encouraging the use of electric bikes and reducing reliance on fossil fuels,” Mr. Ayariga stated in a Facebook post.
He revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with SHAQEXPRESS to roll out training modules centred on electric bike operations.
Beneficiaries will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to acquire electric bikes and build viable businesses around them.
The initiative also aligns with President John Mahama’s commitment to legalise and regulate the Okada industry.
Mr. Ayariga said the programme would provide a structured and safer alternative to the informal transport services many young people currently rely on for income.
The NYA says it remains open to collaborating with more private sector partners and organisations focused on youth empowerment and skills development.
Mr. Ayariga concluded his announcement with his signature hashtags: #onGod and #showworking, reinforcing his leadership ethos of faith, results, and accountability.
