The Community Practice Pharmacists Association (CPPA) has issued a solemn statement condemning the tragic and senseless murder of Pharmacist Mohammed Zia-UlHak Zibrim, Chief Executive Officer of Zimax Pharmacy in Bolgatanga.
Pharmacist Zibrim was fatally shot on the evening of Thursday, June 5, 2025, in his vehicle outside his residence shortly after completing his professional duties.
In a press statement issue on Wednesday, June 11, the CPPA expressed profound sorrow over the loss of their esteemed colleague, whose commitment to serving his community day and night has been described as tireless and exemplary.
The association highlighted the vital role community pharmacists play in Ghana’s primary healthcare system, often working beyond regular hours to ensure patients receive essential care.
They lamented that such dedication is increasingly met with hostility, including violent attacks such as burglaries and now, murder.
In response to this heinous act, the CPPA, the largest practice group within the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), announced a nationwide seven-day period of mourning starting Thursday, 12 June 2025.
Community pharmacists across Ghana are urged to show solidarity by wearing red armbands or headgear and draping their pharmacies with red cloths, bands, or flags.
The association called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible for Pharmacist Zibrim’s murder, warning that any delay would intimidate pharmacists nationwide and threaten the provision of healthcare services, particularly forcing many to restrict their operations to daylight hours.
“Enough is enough; swift justice must be served now,” the CPPA declared, also urging authorities to enhance protective measures for pharmacies and healthcare professionals, especially in the Upper East Region.
The CPPA reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to delivering quality clinical pharmacy services while advocating for the safety and security of all pharmacists. They extended heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Pharmacist Zibrim.
