The Bono East region has witnessed a major upset at the 2025 NSMQ regional qualifiers, as Tuobodom Senior High Technical School delivered a stunning blow to regional favourites Kintampo SHS, ending their long-standing dominance and booking a second consecutive ticket to the national championship in October.
Described by many as the “kings of Bono East,” Kintampo SHS had become synonymous with excellence in regional science and maths contests, making four straight appearances at the nationals from 2021 to 2024. Their qualification in previous years often felt like a guarantee until today’s contest changed everything where they fell short by three points, gaining 35 and Tuobodom, 38.

Facing Tuobodom SHTS, Amanten SHS, and Kesse Basahyia SHTS, Kintampo were widely tipped to advance. But Tuobodom had other plans. With unwavering composure, they edged out the giants in a contest that quickly turned from routine to remarkable.
The victory marks a defining moment for Tuobodom SHTS, who are now heading to the nationals for the second year in a row. Last year’s qualification was seen by some as a surprise this year, it’s a statement now according to their NSMQ Cordinator.

For Kintampo SHS, the defeat ends a golden run to the regional finals but may have another attempt to search for a slot in the national championship later today in contest four as second runner up due to the absence of schools in contest 4.
