Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed that he has instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to close all its existing accounts and operate a single consolidated account to enhance transparency and oversight.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, 2 July, Mr Jinapor explained that the directive is part of broader reforms aimed at improving financial accountability within the power distribution sector.
“I have directed as Energy Minister that the ECG closes all the accounts and operate one single account,” he stated.
He noted that ECG has complied with the directive and that the consolidated account would now allow all relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), and the Energy Commission, to track funds effectively.
“With that single account, as Minister, PURC and Energy Commission—all of us can monitor the amounts that come into the account,” Mr Jinapor added.
