Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey was been granted conditional bail on Tuesday, after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The former Arsenal midfielder faces five counts of rape against two women, and a charge of sexual assault against a third woman.
The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022 when he was playing for north London club Arsenal but the Metropolitan Police started investigations in February 2022 when they received a report of rape.
Court documents say the incidents that took place between April 21 and May 31, 2021, April and June 2021, in December 2021, February 2022 and June 2022. The charge of sexual assault relates to an alleged incident in February 2022.
Partey appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, in the company of his attorney, Jenny Wiltshire on Tuesday morning.
Wiltshire, who also successfully represented former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy in the court case of rape allegations from six different women, prayed the court to allow Partey to keep his freedom while cooperating with the prosecution.
In the end, the Westminster Magistrates' Court granted bail under conditions that Partey would be happy with.
Bail conditions
- The 32 year-old cannot contact any of the three women directly or indirectly.
- Partey is also required to properly inform the police with a written notice in case of any permanent changes of address.
- If he wishes to travel for any purpose outside of England, the bail conditions require Partey to notify the police in writing 24 hours in advance.
- He is also required to be present at the next court hearing.
Partey is scheduled to next appear in court on September 2 at the Old Bailey in London.
Before that, the midfielder is expected to sign a two year contract with Spanish side Villareal.
