Former Ghana Football Associaion (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, believes CK Akonnor’s new role as head coach of Kenyan giants Gor Mahia presents a golden opportunity for Ghanaian players.
His remarks follow Akonnor’s signing of a two-year contract with the club, where he will be joined by Bismark Kobby Mensah as assistant and Ben Owu as goalkeepers' trainer.
Speaking on Luv FM, Sannie described Akonnor’s appointment as a strategic gateway that could see more Ghanaian footballers targeted for transfers to the East African powerhouse.
“They've seen that there are lots of opportunities for them to also make money via the Club World Cup. so they also be counting on CK to find them not only talents in Kenya but also talents outside Kenya particularly in Ghana they'll be targeting Ghanian players for recruitment.
“They are hopeful that he can help them turn the corner and I know that he knows football talents when he sees one and I know he'll be able to find some within the Kenyan sphere to be able to deliver,” he said.
Akonnor has formerly been at the helm of Ghana’s two most prestigious clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
His coaching résumé also includes stints with Dreams FC, Sekondi Eleven Wise, and the Black Stars.
