A seven-member governing board of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been inaugurated to promote fairness and transparency in public sector compensation.
The board, chaired by a legal practitioner with Adom Mbrodo Law Chamber, Samuel Adu-Yeboah, includes prominent professionals from various fields, including law, public service, and the Ghana Employers Association.
Members are Dr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive of the FWSC; Annie Moghtar Mohayideen of S&AC Law; and Dr Prince E. Darah of the Public Services Commission (PSC).
Others are Joyce Aseidu-Ofei, representing the Ghana Employers Association; Madam Hilda Ashie, a retired staff member of the FWSC; and Shadrack Mensah of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
Significance of FWSC
Inaugurating the board, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Rashid Pelpuo, urged the members to uphold fairness and equity in public sector pay administration.
He highlighted the pivotal role of the FWSC in promoting good governance and fairness in public sector compensation.
He emphasised the challenges of managing the public service wage bill within a sustainable economic framework and the need for an Independent Emoluments Commission to address disparities in wages and salaries administration.
The Minister congratulated the newly inaugurated board members on their appointment and thanked them for their willingness to serve the nation.
He tasked them with developing mechanisms to reduce labour unrest arising from pay inequities and assured the board members of his full cooperation and support in their work after expressing his confidence in their expertise and determination to fulfil their duties.
Board's response
On behalf of the board, Adu-Yeboah expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing them and for the opportunity to serve on the commission.
