Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has urged Ghanaians to embrace love, compassion, and unity in the wake of the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including senior government officials.
Ms Muslim described the tragedy as a sobering reminder of life’s fragility.
“Death is a reminder to us, the living, of how fleeting life truly is. We cannot account for the next second of our existence, so why live as though we have control over the minutes to come? This should serve as a major lesson for us to focus on what truly matters: to love one another, let humanity lead, and show compassion, empathy, and solidarity, especially in moments like this,” she reflected in an interview on Channel One TV on Sunday, August 10.
Her remarks came after the final funeral rites for Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation and MP for Tamale Central, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
The solemn service took place at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, followed by their burial at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
In keeping with Islamic tradition, Janazah prayers were offered for the deceased, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.
The ceremony was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Vice-President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, bereaved families, Members of Parliament, government officials, the Muslim community, and members of the public.
