The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has clarified that the participation of the Bar Council of England and Wales in its upcoming 2025 Annual Conference in Wa is not unusual and should not be misconstrued.
In a statement signed and issued by the National President, Efua Ghartey, the Association dismissed concerns suggesting that inviting the Council was inappropriate.
It stressed that the Bar Council of England and Wales had previously joined its conference in 2022, held in Ho, and that the practice of engaging international counterparts was long-standing.
“The GBA also maintains relationships with other professional bodies like the African Bar Association, the International Bar Association, Nigerian Bar Association, Sierra Leonean Bar Association, the Law Society of Kenya, the Law Society England and Wales, and the American Bar Association, among others, who from year to year are invited to attend programmes of the GBA,” the statement noted.
The GBA stated that it remains a non-partisan body committed to upholding the Constitution and the dignity of the legal profession.
The 2025 GBA Annual Conference is scheduled to take place in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, and is expected to attract lawyers, judges, and international legal representatives.
