The 2000 Year Group of the Accra Academy Old Boys’ Association has dismissed allegations of corruption levelled against its executives by social media activist Kofi Gharbin, popularly known as Mr Happiness.
Mr. Gharbin had accused the leadership of embezzling funds meant for the Beatrice Lokko Memorial Eco-Park, a project currently being undertaken by the group.
In a statement, however, the association described the claims as “unfounded, bizarre, and malicious,” insisting that not a single pesewa has been misapplied.
The Eco-Park project, which began in February 2025, is part of the group’s Silver Jubilee celebration and is being executed in four phases — grounds preparation, construction, greening, and beautification — at an estimated cost of GH¢350,000.
The group disclosed that the project is now at the greening stage, which involves planting canopy trees and other landscaping works.
According to the statement, a committee made up of prominent professionals, including Richard Abbey, CEO of Xodus Communications; Israel Kwaku Mensah Susuli, a serial entrepreneur and poultry expert; and Nii Armah Ashong Katai of betPawa, among others, is managing the project.
Monthly progress updates are shared with the 151-member year group via its WhatsApp platform, with 66 members having contributed so far.
The funds are being managed through Chango, a digital payment platform that tracks contributions and disbursements in real time.
“Not a single penny has gone into the private pockets of the project management committee,” the statement stressed, adding that some committee members are among the largest contributors.
The executives and committee members deposit pulsa tanpa potongan reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring the Bleoo fraternity that the project will be completed successfully.
“We will not be distracted by destructive voices whose criticisms are either out of ignorance, malice, or both,” the statement concluded.
