Residents of Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality have attacked members of the Oti Regional Environmental Task Force while they were carrying out their official duties.
The task force, inaugurated just last week in collaboration with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (REGSEC), was established to help curb the alarming surge in typhoid fever cases in the region.
So far, the Oti Region has recorded more than 23,000 cases in the first half of 2025, largely attributed to unhygienic practices and lack of access to clean water.
The attack occurred at Dambai Zongo, where one of the officers was heckled by residents after he refused to accept a summons letter.
Regional Environmental Health Officer, Cynthia Sekyere, appealed to the public to cooperate with the task force, stressing that their work is critical to tackling environmental health issues in the region.
