The Bloggers Association of Ghana president, Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah aka Attractive Mustapha, has welcomed President John Mahama’s call for a national conversation on the regulation of Ghana’s blogging industry.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, Attractive Mustapha expressed appreciation for the president’s recognition of the critical role bloggers play in shaping today’s media ecosystem.
He stressed that “any institution or household without regulations often struggles to function effectively,” noting that the same principle applies to the digital media space, where structure and guidelines are key to sustainable growth.
He commended President Mahama for acknowledging Ghanaian bloggers as agenda-setters whose influence extends beyond entertainment to shaping public discourse, amplifying voices, and driving national conversations.
Highlighting why regulation deserves consideration, he pointed to several areas:
- Curbing misinformation: Regulation can help reduce the spread of fake news, unverified stories, and harmful content.
- Ensuring accountability: With bloggers influencing public opinion much like traditional media, ethical standards are needed to safeguard credibility.
- Protecting society: A regulatory framework can safeguard national security, privacy, and public order, while still allowing creativity and expression.
Attractive Mustapha emphasised that the Bloggers Association of Ghana and the broader blogging community are open to dialogue, consultation, and constructive discussions on the matter.
He said such conversations are necessary to strike a balance between regulation, freedom of expression, and innovation.
He concluded by affirming that the Association welcomes the involvement of all stakeholders—including policymakers, bloggers, civil society, and media practitioners—to develop a regulatory framework that is fair, inclusive, and forward-looking.
