The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kwaku Agyei Mensah, has cautioned residents on littering and indiscriminate waste disposal.
He emphasised that the Assembly was enforcing its sanitation bylaw, warning that people who littered around would be sanctioned accordingly.
Mr. Mensah gave the advice when interacting with the media on the sidelines of a cleanup exercise held in the Municipality, saying good sanitation and a healthy environment promoted good health and increased productivity.
The Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), a waste management and sanitation firm, with support from the Municipal Assembly, organised the cleanup exercise to rid the municipality of filth and promote a cleaner environment.
He urged stakeholders to support the assembly in keeping the municipality clean and averting the outbreak of communicable diseases, saying the development of the municipality remained a collective responsibility.
He said Techiman remained a larger market centre and a transit area, indicating that its vibrant market attracted other traders from neighbouring countries like Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Senegal.
It is therefore imperative to keep the municipality clean to portray a good image in the eyes of the traders, he stated.
Mr. Mensah expressed concern about the high cases of typhoid reported in the municipality annually, saying over 6,000 cases of typhoid were recorded in the area every year.
The Bono East Regional Coordinator for the ZGL, Emmanuel Abasiya, told the media that the company was committed to keeping the municipality clean through regular conduct of the cleanup exercise.
He emphasised that ensuring a healthier environment remained a shared responsibility and called on stakeholders to contribute to that regard, and commended the impressive turnout of the exercise.
