The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the death of one person following a road accident involving a long vehicle at Nkanfoa Junction on the Cape Coast–Accra highway.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, September 16, the GNFS Central Regional Headquarters reported that its rescue team responded promptly to the incident, which occurred at approximately 10:15 am on September 13. The fire crew arrived on scene at 10:24am.
The accident involved a heavy-duty truck with registration number AW 3475-21, which was loaded with bales of second-hand clothing and had overturned on its passenger side.

According to the driver, he was en route from Accra to Abidjan when he was forced to swerve off the road to avoid a Sprinter bus that was overtaking dangerously. The sudden manoeuvre caused the truck to lose balance and tip over.
"The Rescue Team observed a long vehicle loaded with bales of 'secondhand' clothing lying on its passenger side," the post stated.
A towing truck was brought in to recover the overturned vehicle and facilitate further search and rescue operations.

Tragically, one male victim was discovered buried in the sand beneath the truck. The fire rescue crew managed to retrieve the body, which was subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service for conveyance to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
The GNFS used the opportunity to remind motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially when overtaking on highways, as even a moment’s misjudgment can lead to fatal consequences.
