Ghanaian comic sensation Abdul Waris Umaru, widely known as Comedian Waris, has cleared the air on the rumoured controversy surrounding the comedy industry in Ghana.
In an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on the Changes show, he explained that most of the issues made public are usually intended to draw stakeholders’ attention to the challenges within the industry, to help address them.
However, he added that they try to resolve personal misunderstandings among themselves, rather than bringing them into the public domain.
“They’re lying! There’s no division in the comedy industry. We sit, eat and laugh. What we have as misunderstanding, we discuss it between us. What we have as industry misunderstanding, we put it where we have to put it. If I have a misunderstanding with you that I’m giving you fare to come and you don’t want to come, I can discuss with you personally. But if I give fare that you should come to my event and you don’t come, we’ll discuss it on air,” he said.
According to him, their personal differences are separate from their professional work. Hence, certain issues need to be addressed within the media space.
He further explained that some controversial matters are discussed publicly to contribute to the development of the industry.
