The Africa Global Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) has appointed Hon. Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, a Ghanaian governance and public policy expert, to its Advisory Board.
The Chamber said Dr. Opong-Fosu’s appointment recognises his leadership on the global stage, his role in advancing economic growth in Africa—particularly Ghana—and his commitment to strengthening U.S.-Africa trade and investment policy.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AGCC, Dr. Olivier Kamanzi, welcomed the appointment, describing Dr. Opong-Fosu as a “distinguished public servant with strong values of good governance and leadership.” He said Dr. Opong-Fosu’s experience and principles would contribute greatly to advancing the Chamber’s mission.
In response, Dr. Opong-Fosu expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him. “I am committed to working with my fellow leaders and providing my insights, knowledge, skills, and years of experience to the Africa Global Chamber of Commerce,” he said.
Dr. Opong-Fosu currently serves as Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre. He has over four decades of experience in governance and public policy, having served under three Ghanaian presidents. His previous roles include Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
At the international level, he has served as President of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG-Africa), Vice President of UCLG, and as a member of the UN Advisory Committee on Local Authorities. He also chairs the Africa Global Emergence Centre, an initiative promoting Africa’s role in global development.
The Africa Global Chamber of Commerce, based in Chicago, is a 501(c)(6) trade association that advocates for and promotes trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange to enhance Africa’s economic interests and global partnerships.
