As the running mate to the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, what it means is that when the NPP is elected by the good people of Ghana come December 7, 2016, Dr Mahamudu Bawumai becomes the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
He will be Head of the Economic Management Team as the Vice President of Ghana. The economic credentials of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are not in doubt at all. His presentations and apt predictions about the macro-economics of the country have always been on point.
His sterling academic qualifications in economics as well as his work as an economist in various establishments including the Bank of Ghana and the World Bank are all there for all to see and feel.
However, time will not permit me at all to try to enumerate step by step the success Dr Bawumia has achieved at the various places he worked in the past.
With such a track record, what it means is that Ghana will be privileged to have such a young, dynamic, energetic and humble man as the Vice President who has deeper understanding of the economy.
He will be able to proffer practical and prudent solutions to some of the economic problems facing the country like the fall in value of the cedi and the general rise in prices of goods and services including the chronic power shortage that has rocked Ghana thus collapsing various businesses and creating deep unemployment situation in the country.
With his background as an incisive economist, he will never attribute the lost in value of the cedi to dwarfs like some government officials are doing.
He will be factual and truthful with the state of affairs of the economy and not rather continue to feed the people of Ghana with irritating propaganda in the face of a weak and crippling economy.
Aside his expertise in economics, his general qualities as a gentle, humble, God fearing person and philanthropist par excellence will also be brought to steer the affairs of the country successfully.
His approachability, his culture of being a good listener and the honesty with which he offer suggestions as to how to run the country, will place him as Vice President we can trust with the economy. It is sad to see the state of the economy of Ghana now underwhelming under John Dramani Mahama.
Having given this background, I will like to appeal to the electorates to vote for the NPP and Nana Addo come December 2016. It is when Nana Akuffo - Addo is elected as President of Ghana that Dr Bawumia will have the opportunity to offer his expertise to Ghanaians as a Vice President.
We definitely cannot have a continuation of the darkness in which we find ourselves now after election 2016. It will be unpardonable in all forms if the inept and clueless John Dramani Mahama is given the chance to rule again.
May I appeal to Ghanaians who are unhappy with the current misrule of the country to embark on a campaign to get John Dramani Mahama and Amissah Arthur out since they have failed the people of Ghana. There is therefore the urgent need to change hem in 2016 for a more competent Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia so as to salvage the country. The failures of these men are so much that a lot will be there to be said about them and their administration every hour up to the next elections.
The NPP which has the opportunity to win election 2016 must not see itself as coming to power automatically because of the unacceptable transgressions by John Dramani Mahama and his NDC government. It must be seen to be ready for power.
The party should not be wasting precious political time and energy on its own self whilst the ineffectual John Dramani Mahama finds an escape route to propaganda.
I rest my case, at least for now.
