Former Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, is urging the government to disclose the initial findings of the investigation into the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight high-ranking government and military officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Murtala Mohammed.
The fatal incident occurred on August 6, 2025, during what officials described as an official inspection flight.
The crash sent shockwaves across the country, prompting the Ghana Armed Forces and relevant aviation authorities to open a formal probe into its cause.
Addressing journalists, Mr. Nitiwul stated that while full investigations involving technical reviews and international aviation collaboration may take time, the release of preliminary findings is necessary to assure the public that the process is credible and transparent.
“It is going to take a while before we come to a conclusive finding. But I think the initial findings could have been made public to the people of Ghana.
"For the extensive and final report, we understand that it will require time. But the preliminary briefing, especially when people were very apprehensive, would have gone a long way to calm nerves,” he said.
The Bimbilla MP noted that incidents involving state aircraft, especially those carrying top government officials, are matters of national security and public concern, making transparency essential to maintaining public confidence.
His call adds to growing public interest in the status of the investigation, as families and citizens await clarity on what led to one of the country’s most devastating aircraft disasters in recent years.
