The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has scheduled November 30 and December 1, 2025, for what is expected to be the concluding session of his mediation efforts in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
A statement from the Manhyia Palace, signed by Chief of Staff Kofi Badu, announced the development and expressed the Asantehene’s appreciation to both factions for their constructive engagement throughout the mediation process.
“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the statement read.
The mediation, led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, forms part of broader national efforts to restore peace and stability to the Bawku area, where tensions over traditional leadership have persisted for years, leading to loss of lives and property.
The Asantehene’s involvement, widely seen as a sign of confidence in his conflict resolution role, has received praise from traditional authorities, political leaders, and peacebuilding organisations across Ghana.
Observers say the upcoming session could mark a decisive moment in efforts to end one of the country’s most protracted traditional disputes.
The Manhyia Palace urged all parties and residents of Bawku to support the peace process, emphasising that lasting stability would benefit the entire region and nation.
