An Accra Circuit Court has adjourned to January 22, next year the case in which the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, is accused of inciting a mob attack on NAIMOS at Hwediem.
Mr Addo is facing charges, including conspiracy to assault a public officer, assault on a public officer, conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage and rioting with weapons.
He is standing trial with two other accomplices whose names were given as Zakaria Yakubu and Alex, who are at large. The MP’s plea has not been taken but has been admitted to bail in the sum of GH₵150,000.
At today’s hearing, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye who held brief of the substantive prosecutor, informed the court that prosecution had not completed preparing the witness statements.
DSP Nyamekye therefore prayed for one month to complete their investigations and prepare witnesses.
Mr Ebenezer Kwaku Boadu, defence counsel told the court that by the next sitting, if the prosecution was not ready to prosecute the matter, he would pray for his client to be discharged.
The court told the defence counsel to come before the court with a formal application.
The MP is alleged to have incited a mob to attack the director of NAIMOS, Colonel Dominic Buah and his team at Ahafo Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.
On November 3, 2025, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police directed the CID headquarters to investigate the attack on the director of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and his teams at Hwediem.
Addo, the MP for Asutifi North, who was accused of obstructing the NAIMOS team, was invited by the Police to assist in investigations.
