President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that a substantial portion of the road contracts awarded under the government’s flagship Big Push infrastructure programme have gone to the Volta Region.
Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration in Ho on Friday, December 5, President Mahama said the Volta Region has been a major beneficiary of the initiative, which seeks to rapidly expand Ghana’s road network and boost economic activity across all regions.
“A good percentage of the roads awarded under the Big Push are from the Volta Region,” the President said, emphasising that the allocation is part of a deliberate effort to close infrastructure gaps and support communities that have long faced challenges with transportation.
He explained that improving roads in the region is essential for strengthening agricultural productivity, reducing post-harvest losses and ensuring that farmers can transport their produce efficiently to markets.
According to the President, the Big Push programme is designed not only to modernise national infrastructure but also to directly enhance livelihoods by improving feeder roads, trunk roads and major highways that support trade and agriculture.
President Mahama assured farmers and residents that his administration is committed to completing all ongoing projects and accelerating work on new corridors to further integrate rural communities into the national economy.
He also commended farmers for their resilience and contributions to Ghana’s food security, noting that improved infrastructure will play a critical role in sustaining their hard work and boosting national development.
