A joint operation by the IGP Special Operations Team has led to the seizure of illicit firearms and narcotics in Bimbila, Northern Region.
The operation, aimed at combating serious crimes, resulted in the recovery of a pump-action shotgun suspected to be unregistered, 216 AAA live cartridges, and 55 pieces of 76mm BB live cartridges.
Quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were also retrieved.
The operation followed patrols across Bimbila Township, including the main road, inner-city routes, and the Bimbila-Salaga Road.
A snap checkpoint at the Bimbila main Market and Yam Market led to the arrest of several suspects, including a supplier of cartridges and a provision seller suspected of dealing in illicit drugs.
Seven individuals were arrested for dealing in Indian hemp.
The suspects have been transported to the Bimbila District Charge Office for detention pending further investigations and potential prosecution.
The recovered items have been handed over to investigators for safekeeping and further inquiry. The operation has disrupted the circulation of illicit firearms and narcotics within the Bimbila Township.
The IGP Special Operations Team's efforts are to enhance security across the Northern Region, reinforcing public trust and contributing to a safer environment for communities.
