The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday successfully contained two separate fire outbreaks in Accra without recording any casualties, following what it described as swift and coordinated emergency responses.
The first incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at Merton Montessori School, located opposite the Osu Cemetery.
The institutional fire was reported at 6:02 a.m., with firefighters from the Ministries Fire Station arriving at the scene within seven minutes, at 6:09 a.m.
The fire was brought under control by 6:23 a.m. and fully extinguished at 6:50 a.m., limiting damage to furniture, stationery, and air-conditioning units at the school.
Later in the day, a second fire broke out at Zaabu Zongo in the Abossey Okai area. The domestic fire was reported at 11:28 a.m., and personnel from the Industrial Area Fire Station arrived at the scene at 11:39 a.m.
With reinforcement from the Dansoman and Accra City Fire Stations, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control at 12:14 p.m. and fully extinguished it at 1:09 p.m.
The fire destroyed 11 single rooms, but several adjoining houses were saved from total destruction, preventing further losses within the densely populated community.
The Ghana National Fire Service says the causes of both fires are under investigation, as it reiterates its commitment to rapid response, professionalism, and the protection of lives and property across the country.
