Construction works have begun on some major roads in the Ho West District of the Volta Region under the Mahama-led government’s The Big Push Project.
The construction works, which include upgrading the existing stretches in the southeastern part of the district to bitumen surfacing, are expected to open up the agrarian sector and spur economic activity.
Preparatory works are being done on the road stretching from Sokode through Abutia Kloe to Juapong, leading to the national capital, Accra.
The road is being demarcated and marked with pegs for subsequent works to commence in earnest.

The project entails bitumen surfacing on a single-lane road, with drains along both edges and culverts at designated locations along the stretch.
Addressing the coronation ceremony in Abutia Teti, the District Chief Executive of Ho West, Prosper Francis Dussey, announced that Ho West to North would also receive a facelift.
“The contractor you see on the road will construct from Sokode to Abutia-Kloe. Another contractor will continue and end at Juapong. Others are working on the Asikuma route through Kpolukofe to North Tongu, connecting to the Accra highway”, he said.

The newly coronated Mankrado of Abutia, Togbe Keh Kosi VIII, urged the traditional area to unite towards harnessing development.
He emphasised his commitment to improving access to education in the enclave while taking the necessary steps to purge the community of miscreants.

The Paramount Chief of Abutia, Togbe Abutia Kodzo Gidi V, entreated churches to embrace and support customary practices in communities where they operate.
“Churches must be at peace with the community. Churches must understand that we came to meet our traditions and customs. Those that needed to be redefined have been redefined. Those that needed to be abolished have been abolished.
