The National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) has appointed Obiri Yeboah Samuel as President of its United Kingdom Chapter, marking a new phase in the leadership of the organisation representing Ghanaian students studying in the UK.
The appointment, which took effect on January 20, 2026, makes Samuel the second President of NUGS UK since the chapter was launched in April 2024.
The first batch of executives was appointed in May 2024.

Samuel Obiri Yeboah hails from Old Tafo, one of Ghana’s vibrant communities in the Ashanti Region, and his journey to the presidency of NUGS UK is described as one shaped by perseverance and a strong commitment to service.
Speaking on his appointment, Samuel expressed gratitude to the leadership of NUGS for the confidence reposed in him, while outlining an ambitious vision for the organisation.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me. My vision is to reposition NUGS UK as a relevant, responsive, and respected force in the lives of Ghanaian students in the United Kingdom,” he said.
He noted that under his leadership, NUGS UK will seek to become a credible and confident voice for Ghanaian students in academic and policy-related spaces.
He also emphasised the need for the union to serve as a bridge between Ghanaian students, UK educational institutions, the Ghana High Commission, and other international student bodies.
The appointment of Samuel Obiri Yeboah is expected to strengthen the chapter’s role in student advocacy and institutional collaboration both in the UK and back home in Ghana.
