Ghana forward Caleb Ekuban played a pivotal role in a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory for Genoa against Bologna on Sunday, 25 January 2026, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
After falling 2-0 behind early in the second half following an own goal and a strike from Lewis Ferguson, Genoa capitalised on a red card shown to Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.
Following Ruslan Malinovskyi’s spectacular free kick that reduced the deficit, Ekuban was introduced as a substitute in the 73rd minute to inject fresh attacking impetus. Just five minutes later, the Ghana international levelled the score with an extraordinary right-footed volley from seven yards, expertly redirecting a headed pass from Alessandro Marcandalli into the top corner.
The match reached fever pitch in stoppage time when fellow substitute Junior Messias completed the turnaround with a curling left-footed finish, securing all three points for Daniele De Rossi’s side.
The fixture marked Ekuban’s 17th league appearance of the 2025–26 Serie A campaign. The 31-year-old striker has primarily been used as an impactful substitute this season, accumulating 537 minutes of playing time – averaging roughly 31 minutes per match.
His equaliser against Bologna was his second goal of the season, following a prior strike against Como in September. To date, Ekuban has registered three goal contributions for the 2025–26 campaign, comprising two goals and one assist.
