The Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, has commended the management of Air Tanzania for their decision to commence flights to Ghana, describing the move as a significant boost to regional connectivity, trade, and tourism.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the entry of the Tanzanian national carrier into the Ghanaian market, she said the new route underscores the strengthening ties between West and East Africa and reflects growing cooperation among African nations in aviation and commerce.
“This entry of Air Tanzania demonstrates the growing connectivity between our nations and strengthens the bonds of friendship and trade,” she said.
Md. Opare noted that the direct Accra–Dar es Salaam service, with a flight duration of approximately six hours, will offer passengers greater convenience, while the return leg—operating through Lagos, Nigeria—will take about eight hours.
“I understand that the flight duration from Accra to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is six hours, and the return leg from Dar es Salaam through Lagos, Nigeria, to Accra, Ghana, is about eight hours,” she stated.
She praised Air Tanzania for its commitment to expanding its network across the continent and expressed optimism about the long-term benefits of the partnership.
“I would like to commend Air Tanzania for their commitment to expanding their network and operations, and we look forward to a fruitful partnership,” the GACL Managing Director added.
According to Mrs Opare, the introduction of the route enhances efficiency, broadens travel options for passengers, and reinforces Ghana’s position as a strategic aviation hub in the sub-region.
She further highlighted the route's importance to trade, tourism, economic cooperation, and people-to-people relations between West and East Africa, noting that it opens new opportunities for business travellers, tourists, and students.
