Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the government’s commitment to transforming Africa’s economic future through a “reset agenda” focused on building prosperity within the continent rather than exporting its potential abroad.
Speaking at the 2026 Africa Prosperity Dialogues in Accra, the Vice President said Africa must move away from dependency and fragmentation and instead embrace self-reliance, integration and inclusive growth.
“The idea of a reset is to move us from dependency to self-reliance, from fragmentation to integration, from exporting potentials to building prosperity at home,” she stated.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang explained that Africa’s vision of becoming a single integrated economic space remains unfinished, stressing that the stakes are high because prosperity for Africans depends on collective progress.
“Our borders should connect us,” she said, adding that economic transformation cannot be achieved if countries continue to operate in isolation.
She noted that Ghana has consistently worked to bridge historical and economic divides across the continent through initiatives such as the Year of Return, the Pan-African Festival of Arts and Culture, and the Diaspora Summit, aimed at strengthening ties between Africa and its global diaspora.
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of cooperation rooted in dignity, equity and mutual benefit, referencing the recommitment of African states during the second AU-CARICOM Summit held in Addis Ababa last year.
