Ghana’s Black Princesses failed to make home advantage count as they settled for a draw against South Africa in their 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The game, played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, ended 2-2 with the South Africans being the happier side.
Ghana took the lead through Jonina Ladies’ Agnes Yeboah in the first half of the game after Linda Owusu Ansah had found her from a corner.
Charles Sampson’s side went into recess with just a one goal but there should have been more in the opening 45 minutes of the encounter.
South Africa surprised the home side just minutes into the second half as they struck from a volley to level the score, silencing the home crowd.
They were, however, only leveled, for a few minutes as Linda Owusu Ansah restored the Black Princesses advantage.
The Ampem Darkoa Ladies forward scored directly from a corner to make it 2-1 in Ghana’s favour.
The Princesses were pegged back again shortly after an attempt to play out from the back went wrong.
Ghana had a goal disallowed for an offside in the build up but that was all they could manage as the game ended 2-2 in Accra.
The Black Princesses will now travel to South Africa for the return leg hoping they can upset the hosts and advance into the final round of the qualifiers.
