Three persons, including a matron of Wovenu Senior High School at Tadzewu in the Volta Region and a police officer, have been arrested for allegedly diverting food supplies meant for students of the school.
The suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, after they were allegedly intercepted while transporting food items believed to be part of the school’s stock.
According to sources, the arrest was carried out at about 6:20 a.m. by the Assembly Member for the area, Meli Atipoe, together with some community members.
The suspects were reportedly found with several bags of rice, cartons of tin tomatoes, tin fish, and gallons of cooking oil.
Information available indicates that the vehicle used in conveying the items was being driven by a Police Sergeant from Ho, who is said to be a close associate and boyfriend of the matron’s sister.
The circumstances surrounding the transportation of the items have raised suspicion among residents, leading to their interception and arrest.
The three suspects were initially handed over to the Tadzewu Police, but were later transferred to the Dzodze Police for further investigations.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the alleged diversion and the possible involvement of other persons.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Martin Amenaki, has assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated.
He stressed that anyone found culpable will be dealt with according to law.
