The Adabraka District Court has granted bail of GH¢30,000 with two sureties each to two persons accused of damaging a tombstone at the Osu Cemetery.
Joseph Donkor, 35, has been charged with causing unlawful damage to a tombstone belonging to the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, while Eric Tawiah Annang, 62, faces a charge of abetment.
Both pleaded not guilty and are to reappear before the Court on March 24, 2026.
An alleged accomplice remains at large.
Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Apewah Achana said the complainant was the head of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Task Force.
He said Annang was a contractor and resident of Osu, while Donkor was a labourer residing near the Arts Centre.
Chief Inspector Achana told the Court that on February 8, 2026, at about 0800 hours, the sexton at the Osu Cemetery and a witness embarked on a patrol following allegations of illegal grave digging.
During the patrol, the witness heard noise from within the cemetery and proceeded to the source.
The prosecution said the witness found Donkor and his accomplices attempting to disinter a grave after damaging the tombstone.
The witness instructed them to stop and directed them to accompany him to his office.
On the way, Annang confronted the witness, stating that he had assigned the work to Donkor and his accomplice because he had a permit.
The task force later arrived at the cemetery, but the accomplices fled on seeing them.
Annang and Donkor were arrested and taken to the Osu Police Station for investigations.
During investigations, the accused persons admitted the offences and were subsequently charged to appear before the Court.
