Officers of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison (NMSP) marked this year’s Valentine’s Day with a gesture that went beyond flowers and cards, extending compassion to children receiving treatment at the Nsawam Government Hospital.
The officers donated assorted items to the Paediatric Ward of the facility, bringing relief and smiles to young patients and health workers alike.

Items presented included toilet rolls, detergents, sanitary pads, drinks, mop buckets, mop sticks, assorted food items, chocolates, bottled water, tissue paper, and other essential supplies to support the ward’s daily operations.
The presentation was made by CSP Sheritta Mathar Quist, Officer in Charge of Reception, on behalf of the Eastern Regional Commander, DDP Thomas Patrick Seidu.

The initiative formed part of activities to commemorate Valentine’s Day and highlighted the Ghana Prisons Service’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, Dr Richard Letcher, Doctor in Charge of the Paediatric Ward, expressed appreciation to the officers for the timely support. He noted that such gestures go a long way in easing the burden on both staff and caregivers.

However, he pointed to a major challenge confronting the ward, limited space. According to him, the increasing number of child patients continues to put pressure on available beds and facilities, making it difficult to accommodate cases comfortably.
He therefore appealed to the general public and relevant stakeholders to support efforts to expand the ward and improve conditions for child healthcare delivery in the area.

Also present at the ceremony were the Second-in-Command of NMSP, DDP Andrews Osei, and other officers of the Service.
