The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has hinted at a growing lack of trust among the top leaders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging members of the New Patriotic Party’s student wing, TESCON, to intensify their efforts in preparation for the 2028 general election.
Speaking at a meeting with the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) on Wednesday, March 25, Mr Awuku emphasised the importance of youth mobilisation for future elections but also alluded to tensions between the party’s top brass.
He expressed confidence that the NPP is on track to win in 2028 and urged members to stay focused and plan for future elections, including 2032.
Observing the ruling party’s recent public appearances, particularly during Eid celebrations, Mr. Awuku suggested there were signs of unease and a lack of confidence among NDC leaders. He argued that these internal tensions should motivate the NPP to maintain unity and strengthen its internal structures.
Despite highlighting these challenges within the ruling party, Mr. Awuku stressed the importance of cohesion within the NPP and active youth involvement in securing electoral victory.
“There will be moments of pain, there will be moments of joy, there will be difficult times, there will be tough times, but we shall prevail like this. We know how to win. We have done it before. And together with the youth, as the anchor of our country, the flag bearer is clear in his mind that the next elections will be won by the youth of our country,” he said.
He urged TESCON and the youth wing to actively deploy all available resources in preparation for the 2028 elections.
“Every resource that you must deploy is going to make sure you invest in the youth campaign led by you, the TESCON, the youth wing, and all. Once together, you give right, you win the next election,” Mr. Awuku added.
