The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, has inaugurated a 15-member multi-stakeholder steering committee to drive the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The inauguration, held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, marks a significant step towards strengthening capacity development and promoting industry-focused research within the sector.
The proposed Centre of Excellence is expected to serve as a hub for competency-based training and applied research to support industry growth and innovation.

The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Chief Executive of the NPA, Dramani Bukari, and includes representatives from key departments of the Authority as well as major industry stakeholders.

Among the stakeholders represented are organisations such as the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), the Tanker Drivers Union, and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), reflecting a broad-based approach to industry development.

The initiative is expected to enhance professional standards, improve operational efficiency, and position Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector for sustainable growth through skills development and research-driven solutions.
