Friends are valuable. Sometimes they could be more than gold. More than the people you call family. They become the backbone of your life. In other words, you would not be where you are currently if you had not had such wonderful friends. You can testify right? Yeah. We all have stories to tell about the great friends we’ve had.
But at the same time you remember that there are some who can actually pollute your personality and drag you backwards on your journey. Today, I want us to talk about how to either help change such friends for the better for their good and our good as well or if the journey becomes impossible, you drop them.
You know there are people who never see anything good in anything, who are always skeptical about everything and see only the negative part of life and all circumstances surrounding them. It’s as if they had special training to get them to see the way they do and to think and react to issues the way they do.
You must first understand the journey you’re on to be able to appreciate your life. Then you can tell when those “stinky friends” must probably go. For instance, if you had a friend who only tells you how impossible it is to set up a business, what do you do? This friend keeps telling you to forget about your dream because that’s just unrealistic, what do you do? What’s even more interesting is that he has refused to find a job to do. He can’t see the abilities he’s got. He’s not willing to start his own venture as well but he’s got every 24hours to complain, sleep and eat.
You talk to him and he’s still negative. Do you stay with this friend who does not motivate you and thinks that the whole world stinks? You can only do your best to make him see the light, if he still closes his eyes or refuses to see, drop him. You know why? Because the bad nut will spoil the taste in your mouth.
Sometimes people act the way they do and say what they feel because of what they listen to. For example, someone in an environment that keeps saying ‘you’re stupid, there’s nothing good that can come from you or I regret the day I ever listened to your words’, will tend to think that that’s how things are everywhere and can’t be changed.
But you can be that voice that tells the person that he or she should change what they listen to and they’ll act and talk differently. If he doesn’t listen, never mind. Because there’re actually people who enjoy being negative.
I heard the story of a young physically challenged man. He sat in front of a public building every morning begging for alms. One day, a rich man passed by and asked that he allows him to take him to the hospital so he could start walking again. He replied; “No”. Then he was asked why. He said “because I will not be able to sit here every morning for alms”.
This is just an example to emphasize how some people enjoy being pitied instead of contributing their quota to society. If you had such a friend, I guess you know what to do in order not to miss your mark on your journey.
Don’t let “stinky friends” stop you from being where you ought to be. If you can help them and they’re willing to accept your help and improve for the better, why not? If not….then begin dropping them. Checked out your friends list yet? Maybe you may want to consider that now. Thanks for staying on this page. Let’s do this again. Have a wonderful day. Later.
