The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has arrested six people during a raid on three entertainment spots in Nungua for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs.
The suspects were arrested on July 3 after officers uncovered unregistered shisha products, nitrous oxide gas canisters and other suspected illicit substances during the operation.
According to the FDA, the raid forms part of an intensified nationwide crackdown on the illegal drug trade.
The operation followed months of surveillance after the FDA received intelligence that the three entertainment spots were allegedly involved in the sale of illicit drugs.
The team first raided Space Station Lounge, where staff initially resisted attempts to inspect the premises. However, after further engagement, officers gained access and searched, leading to the discovery of nitrous oxide gas canisters and unregistered shisha products.
Similar items were also found at two nearby entertainment venues—Liquid Zero Pub and Italian Boy Lounge.
The seized products were confiscated, the establishments were temporarily closed, and the six suspects were taken to the Tema Community Two Police Station to assist with investigations.
A member of the FDA's Tobacco and Tobacco Products Department, Nana Kwame Dartey, said the operation is part of the Authority's routine enforcement exercise aimed at removing illicit drugs and unregistered tobacco products from the market.
He stressed that the FDA, together with its security partners, will continue such operations to protect public health and clamp down on the illegal drug trade.
