Traders at Enchi in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region have expressed anger and frustration following the demolition of the Enchi market by the Aowin Municipal Assembly to make way for a new 24-hour economy market.

The demolition, carried out days ago, has left several traders without shops, stalls, and designated spaces to continue their businesses.

Some of the affected traders say they have operated at the market for years and are now struggling to determine where to relocate their businesses.

They claim the Assembly did not adequately engage them or provide an alternative trading location before the demolition.

According to the traders, the situation has disrupted their livelihoods, with some losing structures and other investments they had made in their businesses.

The concerns were raised during a visit to the demolished market by the Member of Parliament for Aowin, Oscar Ofori Larbi, who inspected the extent of the demolition and interacted with affected traders.

The traders appealed to the authorities to urgently provide an alternative space where they can resume trading while construction of the new market continues.

The MP acknowledged the concerns raised by the traders and assured them that he would engage the Aowin Municipal Assembly on the need to provide a suitable temporary location.

He said the affected traders must be considered as the 24-hour economy project progresses, stressing the need to prevent the development from leaving them without a means of livelihood.

The traders are now waiting for the Assembly to provide a concrete alternative as work on the proposed 24-hour economy market gets underway.
