The Chief of Bamiri and Tuntuhene of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Asare Baffour II, has commissioned two major development projects in the community as part of this year’s Yam Festival celebrations.
The projects, comprising a modern Kindergarten (KG) block and a guest house, are intended to improve the safety and learning environment for children while generating revenue to support the community’s development needs.
The commissioning ceremonies were attended by traditional leaders, community members and school authorities.

New KG block to improve safety and learning environment
The new KG facility was constructed partly in response to concerns over the safety of children at the old school premises, where pupils were exposed to traffic risks while playing or crossing nearby roads.
Nana Asare Baffour II said the safety of children was a major motivation for providing the new facility.
“I could not sit back and watch our children risk their lives every day just to get an education,” he said.
“This Kindergarten block is my contribution to their safety and to the improvement of education in Bamiri. Every child deserves a secure environment to learn and grow.”
The Headmistress of the school, Gifty Adjei Sarpong, who received the facility on behalf of the school, expressed appreciation to the chief for the intervention.
She said the project had come at a critical time and had addressed the school’s longstanding accommodation challenges.

“This facility has come at the right time. It has solved our accommodation problems and given our children a safe space to learn,” she said.
Madam Sarpong, however, appealed for additional support for teaching and learning materials to enable the school to make full use of the new facility.
Guest house to generate funds for development
The chief also commissioned a newly constructed guest house, which is expected to generate revenue for the community.
Located within the Techiman township, the facility is intended to accommodate visitors, travellers and business people who patronise the area.
Proceeds from the guest house will be channelled into community development projects to reduce Bamiri’s reliance on external support.

Nana Asare Baffour II said the facility formed part of a broader strategy to make the community more financially self-sufficient.
“We cannot depend on handouts forever,” he said.
“This Guest House will generate revenue for the community, which will in turn support other developmental initiatives. It is about building a sustainable future for Bamiri.”

Bamiri’s development
Bamiri has in recent years developed from a predominantly farming community into a growing township with a population of more than 5,000.
The community now has several basic social and economic amenities, including a water supply system, police station, CHPS compound, fabrication company, technical institute, public place of convenience and a gari processing factory.
The addition of the KG block and guest house is expected to further strengthen the community’s infrastructure and support its development ambitions.
The projects were commissioned as part of this year’s Yam Festival, which attracted hundreds of residents and visitors to Bamiri.
