Newly Appointed Sports Minister Dr Mustapha Ahmed has exclusively told Joy Sports he is unfazed by the challenges his predecessors faced.
If anything, he is rather encouraged to learn from those experiences through a comprehensive consultation process in order to be a better Minister.
Former Minister Mahama Ayariga was reassigned to the Ministry of Science and Environment by Ghana President John Mahama in his latest ministerial reshuffle which paved way for the dental surgeon and Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso North Constituency to be appointed Sports Minister.
He is the seventh minister in six years of the NDC administration.
Dr Ahmed told JOY Sports in his first interview after his appointment said he is confident of evading the "landmines" that trapped ex-sports ministers.
"What you call a landmine could well serve as experience or warning signings for a new person who is going into a place where people have threaded before and have tripped on the mine, so you know you need to tread cautiously.
I believe all these experiences will inform my actions and decisions that will be taken. I am hopeful proper consultation will help avoid major pitfalls"
"The consultation process has started and it's like work in progress".
Dr Ahmed who is also a member of the Education, Youth, Sports and Culture Committee in Parliament has the All Africa games in September, Black Stars qualification for Africa Cup of nations in 2017 and Ghana' bid to host AFCON 2017 as his immediate assignments.
