Nana Sakyi Amako I, Chief of Sakyikrom near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, where two young men allegedly turned into African pythons, last Sunday summoned the two others and their employer, a certain Mr. Afum, to explain to him and his elders how their colleagues were transformed into 'snakemen'.
However, neither Afum, popularly called 'Tarpaulin' who claims to be a chief at Doboro on the Nsawam-Accra road but lives at Sakyikrom where he has his business - nor Yaw Goro and Filco, who were said to have been healed by Mallam Fatau, turned up for the meeting,
The four alleged sakawa victims, Kofi Adjei, 28, Kwame Tetteh, 28, Yaw Goro, 26 and Filco, 23, were said to be masons and hailed from Sakyikrom except Filco who hailed from Teacher Mante in the Eastern Region.
Filco was said to be a care-taker of pigs belonging to the wife of his 'boss' at Sakyikrom.
An agitated Nana Sakyi Amako I, his elders and the assembly member for the town called on the Police Service to investigate and verify the truth of the allegations, since the image of their town was being tarnished on the internet.
"If I were the government, I will cause the immediate arrest of Mallam Fatau and the fetish priest in this whole saga," he told Daily Guide on Sunday at Sakyikrom, adding that the chiefs and people of the town also want to find out from Afum how he came to know the two boys.
The assemblyman, Asinor Agyare, told DAILY GUIDE that 23-year-old Filco was an employee of Afum.
According to him, on Sunday July 19, Filco and his 'accomplice' came to the town holding two large snakes which drew a large crowd after which they sent them to an unknown place.
He said the two 'guys' are almost always seen in the town but until DAILY GUIDE published the 'Sakawa' story accompanied by their pictures, nobody knew that they were into that kind of 'business'.
The assemblyman explained that just before DAILY GUIDE came up with the story, someone who knew the 'guys' saw their pictures in a commercial calendar captioned, "Sakawa Boys" and bought a copy.
Asinor Agyare said they were shocked by the revelation and told the chief of the town about it, who also invited Mr. Afum for explanation as to how the ‘boys’ who are always seen in his company could go tot hat extend and get themselves involved in such weird ‘sakawa’ deals.
Sakyikrom has become the focus of media attention since Peace Fm broke the news about four young men going for “sakawa” money; but their adventure unfortunately turned sour when two of them allegedly turned into snakes while the other two became dumb after which Daily guide also followed up to the extensive coverage with vivid pictures which captured the rapt attention of the public.
