The Ajumako District Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Kwasi Boakye Enimil has remanded in prison custody a man who allegedly assaulted his girl friend and attempted to bribe the judge who will sit on the case.
Benjamin Christian Essuong, a 31-year-old herbalist, pleaded not guilty and the court ordered him to re-appear before the same court on August 20, 2009.
Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Ben Billy Amenuke told the court that on 25 July 2009, at about 1810 hours the accused attacked his girlfriend, Elizabeth Edusei, 29, at Ajumako Eshiam with a cutlass and unlawfully injured her.
Chief Inspector Amenuke said that on the 29 July 2009, at about 2002 hours, the accused went to the residence of Mr Enimil, the district magistrate, with an envelope containing 20.00 Ghana Cedis to influence him on the matter.
The money which was tendered in evidence in the court, has been given to the police, the prosecutor added.
