The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Miss Georgina Yeboah, has called on the government to enact a law to protect the new cedi from careless use.
Mss Yeboah said such law had become necessary because of the careless manner currency notes were handled.
"All notes which were printed at a great cost have become our jotters on which we write our lotto numbers and telephone numbers," Miss Yeboah stated.
The District Director expressed concern about how market women soiled the notes with red oil and how drivers squeezed the notes into small compartments in their vehicles, and advised Ghanaians to respect the nation’s currencies.
She appealed to ministers of religion to advise their members to take good care of the notes when going for the offertory.
Church members should stop squeezing the money in their hands before putting them into the offertory boxes, he said.
Nana Otwere Ansah VI, Mankrado of Mando, urged the audience to take the message seriously to make the re-denomination successful.
He cautioned people he called "money changing contractors" to stay clear of the exercise as their activities would not be entertained in the town.
Mr James Koranteng, NCCE Field Officer tested the audience with questions to know their level of understanding of the exercise and the response was very encouraging.
