Former president of the National House of Chiefs says publications suggesting he was sidelined during President Mills’s tour are mischievous
Odeneho Gyapong Ababio II has described as erroneous a Chronicle newspaper publication which suggested that he was given a cold reception at Sewfi Wiawso during a durbar of chiefs and people to honor President Mills.
The Chronicle in its August 1 edition reported that the paramount chief of Sewfi Bekwai was ignored and relegated to the background at separate durbars held in Takoradi and Sewfi Wiawso during the president’s tour last week, ostensibly because of his alleged support for the NPP in the 2008 elections.
Odeneho Gyapong Ababio at a news conference asked the public to discount the report describing it as capricious and mischievous.
He told journalist, there were four paramount chiefs at the durbar grounds and the president exchanged pleasantries with all of them.
“I am refuting this erroneous impression being created…that I was given a cold reception by His Excellency and his entourage. All of them shook hands with me, I had a word with His Excellency the president then I told [him] I wish you all the best of luck in your administration,” he said.
The chief questioned why a reporter he did not know would write such an article that suggested the two of them had a trouble with each other.
His suggested there was no trouble between he and the president and that such publications are only empty speculation.
