The Cocoa Affairs Court in Accra on Thursday adjourned the case in which the family of the late Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II, is suing the Ga Traditional Council for unlawfully taking proceeds generated from the funeral of the late chief.
The family sued the council two days ago praying the court to order an immediate release of all funds taken by the council during the funeral.
When the case was called on Thursday, lawyers for the bereaved family failed to show up.
The presiding Judge, Justice Lartey Young, therefore adjourned hearing to August 27.
Nii Amugi’s family members say even though they contributed financially towards his funeral, their representatives on the funeral committee were sidelined by the Traditional Council which contributed nothing towards his funeral.
An elder of the bereaved family, Nii Tackie Commey Davies, said the failure of the council to release the proceeds has made it difficult for the family to repay loans they contracted to organize the funeral.
“Because as at now, we are owing some people who we went to and solicited funds,” he said.
He accused the traditional council of locking up a “family funeral office” the family was given to receive visitors during the funeral ceremony.
