There is a stand-off between BNI officials and the former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng's lawyers over his right to counsel during interrogation. While the BNI insist they want to interrogate Mr Asamoah Boateng without his lawyers, counsel insist they have a right to sit in while their client is being interrogated. Mr Asamoah Boateng Thursday morning submitted himself at the offices of the BNI followed reports he was being sought for by the national investigative body to be served with court summons. But at about 11am Thursday when the former Information Minister and his wife arrived at the Accra office of the BNI, officials insisted they would not allow his lawyers to sit in while he was interrogated. Following the disagreement, Mr Asamoah Boateng and his lawyers were left unattended to and have up to 5:40pm remained at the BNI offices.
