A former Local Government Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey (Rtd) is lacing his boots to contest the Berekum West parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The man who gained popularity for his ‘matwen awurade enim’ signature-tune during the party’s flagbearership elections in 2007 told Nhyira FM’s Kwasi Boafo he is under pressure from several party faithful in the constituency to contest.
Captain Effah Dartey (Rtd) was the former MP for Berekum but lost to Kwaku Agyeman Boateng. He also contested the NPP General Secretary position on two occasions but failed and since then has been silent in politics.
But the former Member of Parliament for Berekum said he began considering his chances after a cross-section of the party executives in Brong Ahafo region convinced him to contest.
“Any time I go for a funeral or any other function they tell me Nkrabea if you don’t come the NPP will lose the seat and I don’t want to let them down that is why I want to contest” he added.
Captain Effah Dartey is optimistic he will win the upcoming parliamentary primaries and give the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate a run for his money in the 2016 general elections.
