Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper Kweku Baako has said the New Patriotic Party’s National Chairman Paul Afoko cannot complain of being misrepresented in the infamous Bawumia to play lead role in NPP campaign saga.
He said the Chairman could have rejected the interview if he had nothing to say about the issue he was questioned on.
Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ the seasoned journalist said “the seed of misrepresentation was sowed by [Afoko] himself”.
Mr Baako's comment is in relation to a story published on Myjoyonline.com which said “Bawumia to play lead role in NPP 2016 campaign” a story culled from an interview Afoko had granted Joy News.
In the interview the chairman said there was a strategy in place to make Dr Bawumia a more prominent force in the campaign to recapture power in the 2016 elections.
In Mr Baako’s view, the Chairman on several occasions during the interview contradicted himself and did not communicate effectively.
He said although he has not listened to the complete interview, he believes that the Myjoyonline.com publication was a fair representation of what the Chairman said.
Although Mr Baako thinks that the greater part of the interview was needless, he also believes that the Chairman could have avoided saying the things in the manner in which he said them.
Paul Afoko and other politicians must learn to keep quiet if they have nothing to say, he added.
Meanwhile the NPP Chairman has released a statement saying that he has been misrepresented.
The statement said in part “the publication is a complete misrepresentation of my very comment in the interview. To a question posed by the interviewing journalist, I mentioned that increasingly, the public will see an active participation by party stalwarts such as our Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo, Former President Kufour, Myself the National Chairman, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Alan Kyerematen, Asamoah Boateng, Dr. Konadu Apraku, Francis Addai Nimoh, Joe Ghartey, amongst others in the campaign."
He said as the Chairman of the NPP, it would be premature so to speak, for me to reveal our party campaign strategy at whim.
