Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress in Adenta, a suburb of Accra, are demanding the immediate resignation of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the area.
They accuse Kakra Vanlare of incompetence and causing disaffection for the party.
“We are simply asking her to resign her position because to be honest with you, I was one of the referees on her CV and I need to impress the constituency that the task given to you, you will be able to deliver. For now she does not measure up to the task,” Christian Golu, Constituency Secretary told Joy News’ Evans Mensah on Friday.
According to the secretary, the MCE breached several portions of the Procurement Law in the award of a contract for some road construction in the area.
He also accused the MCE of supervising the indiscriminate arrest of tanker drivers in the area, which he reckoned has implications for the party in the next election.
“She has to get in touch with the community to know their concerns as to where they get water. You just don’t go into the community and start arresting tanker drivers here and there and sending them to the police station.
"If you do that you create problems for the party because the 2012 election will be an issue based campaign,” he said.
The executives say they have sent a petition to President John Evans Atta Mills, spelling out their concerns, and have issued a week’s ultimatum for Kakra Vanlare to resign or face sporadic demonstrations.
Already a planned demonstration by some 30 executives on Friday was averted following the intervention of the Regional Secretary of the party.
Christian Golu said the constituency executives are expected to meet with the Regional Minister for an amicable solution.
The MCE, Kakra Vanlare told Joy News she will respond to the allegations later on Friday.
