Nomadic Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country will soon be kicked out of the country, in an operation dubbed “operation cowleg”.

The activities of Fulani Herdsmen in parts of the country, has in recent times created a nuisance in various communities.

The natives claim their food crops are destroyed by cattle owned by these herdsmen with some women also accusing the nomads of raping them.

These have most often led to conflicts and loss of life.

The Volta Regional minister, Ms. Helen Adjoa Ntoso at a recent media briefing indicated that, her outfit will be embarking on an operation dubbed “operation cowleg” to kick out all nomadic Fulani herdsmen who intend to settle in the region.

Such operations in the past have involved a combined police and military effort. 

Speaking to Joy News, one of the Fulani herdsmen expressed displeasure at the news saying the country presents a peaceful atmosphere for their cow rearing activities to thrive.

The District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District, James Gunu, in an interview says the activities of the Fulani herdsmen have affected most communities including the cultural and economic life of the people.

He is however, hopeful that the implementation of “operation cowleg”, will restore hope in the communities.
