About 74 per cent of business leaders in the country say the economy is worse off today than six months ago.
That’s according to a Business Leader’s Confidence Index survey by international market research agency Synovate Africa.
The survey tracked the views of about 70 business leaders, chief executives and directors of some leading businesses in the country about their perceptions on the economy and various sectors.
Sixty-four per cent of the business leaders were however optimistic the economy would improve in the next six months.
The survey which was carried out simultaneously in Nigeria, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya was released last week.
Country Manager of Synovate Africa, Philip Okulu, said the publication of the index is “about information, disseminating it and hoping that action will follow through.”
“When we release this index to the public what we are hoping will happen is that people will see the confidence that these business leaders have and this will indicate what the actions are going to be,” Mr Okulu said.
